5 Reasons You Should Start Your Own Business
The world is a crazy place right now. There’s little certainty and yet out of uncertainty, there’s always opportunity. I’ve heard about many friends and colleagues who’ve been furloughed or outright laid off. I know many people who’ve been sick with Covid-19 and continue to suffer from symptoms. I also know several business owners who are having the best year financially ever
How can anyone be rocking their business when there appears to be no business to be had? While yes, one man’s (or woman’s) misfortune is another one’s opportunity but I’d rather not look at it from that perspective. One friend is succeeding beyond her wildest dreams because she’s teaching mediators how to mediate online. Another has a divorce support business, and yes, divorces are way up now that couples are spending so much time stuck together. My son is in graduate school for “Learning Science”, there’s no better time to be researching better ways for children to learn online. His opportunities are endless right now.
I started Suite Solutions by Karen because I realized it was what I was meant to do. Despite the challenges of any new business, I’m confident I will be successful.
It doesn’t matter what the reasons are, if you’ve ever imagined yourself as a business owner, this is the time to try it. If you have an income from another job, I don’t recommend necessarily quitting and starting from scratch, however, you can still start your side hustle.
1. You’ve got more time than you ever did. If you simply use the time you used to use to get ready for work and commute in service of your own gig, you’ll have plenty of time to spend on your new venture.
2. Networking is easier than ever. Before Covid-19, scheduling a coffee or lunch with someone could take weeks, sometimes months. Now, all we need is a computer and Wi-Fi and we can connect. I don’t know about you, but I’m starved for human interaction. If someone I haven’t spoken to contacts me, I’m thrilled to have an opportunity to connect.
3. People are curious. My business model may not be the newest or most innovative, however, the fact that I’ve decided to close my last business and start something new in service of myself surprises a lot of people. I think we all have an inner Entrepreneur and hearing someone else’s story gives us ideas for ourselves.
4. If your idea involves manufacturing something, I venture to guess there’s plenty of places that are looking for your business willing to give you better pricing than you could’ve gotten in the past. If you’re interested in a service business like me, there are all kinds of services being created as a consequence of the changes in the world.
5. If not now, when? I don’t know about you, but this virus has put life in perspective for many people. The idea of never getting around to that “thing” I’ve been meaning to do has never had more pressure.
